The long-anticipated Marian Town Centre is reported to start construction late this May, providing a new shopping and lifestyle destination in west Mackay.
The new town centre will be located only 20 minutes west of the Mackay CBD, with a full-range Woolworths supermarket and a diverse mix of shops and services for the local community, with Mackay in the midst of a mining boom.
The North Queensland Register reported on May 3 that Mainbrace Constructions are finalising a building contract, noting that they are on track to begin construction this month, with the town centre expected to be completed in May 2014.
“Along with The Reject Shop, we are thrilled to announce that we have also secured discounted fuel for the valley with a Woolworths Fuel service station and the valley’s largest hardware offering by way of a brand new 1,100m2 Mitre 10,” said Scott Spanton of Tipalea Partners via the North Queensland Register.
This project could present opportunities for labour hire in Queensland and apprenticeships in Mackay.
“We have been very pleased with the response to leasing so far and we have leased close to 70 per cent of the specialty retailer space including an AFS Friendly Care Pharmacy, a medical centre, vet, a bottle shop, a butcher, a surf shop, fish and chip takeaway and noodle shop.”
