Opportunities for apprenticeships in Queensland could receive a boost, following news that a commercial office block development will create 4,000 jobs.
The 1 William Street initiative in Brisbane is expected to generate a number of roles in the construction industry during the building phase, with the state government lauding the work of Projects Queensland in getting the scheme delivered.
Treasurer Tim Nicholls thanked the recently appointed head of the organisation, Dave Stewart, for his contributions in particular and cited several important examples of infrastructure successes achieved with his help.
He remarked: “Under Mr Stewart’s leadership, Projects Queensland has progressed the business case for the second Toowoomba Range Crossing, the Government Wireless Network project and successfully delivered the 1 William Street development, which is a great result for Queenslanders that will create 1,000 jobs a year for the next four years.”
Projects Queensland is a standalone unit that has been tasked with encouraging private sector investment for large-scale infrastructure initiatives.
The 1 William Street development was recently listed among a number of priorities for the state government’s second six-month action plan.
Premier Campbell Newman announced the proposals, which included strategies for boosting Indigenous employment and overall jobs growth in Queensland, earlier this month.
