William’s Abilities Get Him the Job

William came onto the 3rd R U BUSY? program with a few challenges relating to his disability, although this did not stop him from having the dedication and perseverance to complete the R U BUSY? course. William had completed his Year 12 education certificate and was now looking for new opportunities, wanting to expand his network of friends and improve his confidence, so he decided the R U BUSY? program would help him achieve these. William had recently moved into independent living – a group housing situation which is supported by disability workers from FSG.

Whilst on the course, The Youth Project Officer worked closely with William to boost his confidence and achieve his goal of finding employment. In the last week of the R U BUSY? course, The Youth Project Officer took William to an interview at The Endeavour Foundation, a non-for-profit organsiation that provides employment to people with a disability in a supportive environment. William was interviewed for the E-Recycle part of Endeavour Foundation, a part of the organisation in which employees take apart old computers/T.V, throw away parts that cannot be recycled and keep the parts that can. They also make boat trailers for companies such as BCF (boating, camping and fishing stores) all over Australia. William loved the atmosphere of the E-Recycle Centre and could see himself working there. The following week after his interview, William’s case worker at FSG got in contact with Endeavour and William is now working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays at the E-Recycle Centre in Southport.

“The course at Busy gave me the confidence to go to work. I really enjoyed the program as it gave me more confidence in every part of my life”.

Rebecca says, “William’s upbeat personality and positive attitude made it a pleasure to have him on the course. He has made so much progress within himself whilst on the course, developing skills to improve his independence and now having employment means these positive outcomes are something I’m really proud of. William always tries his hardest and I know he is now equip to make positive and independent decisions that will benefit him for the rest of his life”.
