Trevor Gets the Employment Wheels Spinning

Asking for help in your job search can lead you to work in the most surprising places. Just ask Trevor, who secured work as a tyre fitter at Tyrepower, despite never really being interested in cars.

“I wasn’t really a car person,” says Trevor. “I never considered this job but it’s a great job. I really enjoy it.”

Trevor’s journey with BUSY At Work started with a desire to get back into stable employment. As a single parent, Trevor was very clear he needed a job that fitted within school hours, but wasn’t sure what that work looked like.

As a Workforce Australia provider, BUSY At Work has been helping people like Trevor find jobs for over 25 years. The team at BUSY start by finding out what’s important to each individual, and putting together a plan to help them back to work. This plan can include things such as support to write resumes and cover letters, workshops to build skills and even the supply of work-suitable clothing and equipment.

In Trevor’s case, BUSY At Work listened when he told them about the importance of receiving a stable income and establishing a good routine. Job hunting can be difficult when you’re a single parent, so they used their connections with local employers to identify a position that would give him the flexibility to care for his children. This ultimately led to Trever being offered a position with Tyrepower.

“The work we do is important because we not only work with the customer to get them into employment, but we build networks with the employers in the community,” explained BUSY At Work Mentor, Vanja Cunningham.

“We’re really happy that BUSY gave Trevor the opportunity to work here,” said Tyrepower’s Ben Bertinazzi. “He’s a real good fella to work with, he’s always on time, does what he’s asked, he’s a really good fella.”

Trevor is thriving in his new role and he had this advice for other jobseekers: “If you’re looking for work, I would strongly recommend BUSY. They really helped me out. My advice to jobseekers is get out there. There’s support there, people who are willing to work with you and get you into paid employment.”
