A number of traineeships in Queensland will receive funding in an effort to fast track the process of upskilling staff required for January flood recovery efforts.
Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) said Bundaberg and North Burnett will be the primary areas of focus, with the organisation claiming there is an “urgent need” for qualified people to ensure the regions rebuild as quickly as possible.
An initial assessment of flood effects in Bundaberg by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority revealed more than 1,300 buildings in the local council area had suffered moderate to severe water damage.
“[We] will provide additional funding in training areas such as asbestos removal, with extra courses to be offered in the Bundaberg and North Burnett area,” CSQ stated.
“Funding will also be increased to support the costs of white card acquisition by unskilled labourers.”
According to CSQ, it will also be investing in short course training for community infrastructure rebuilding operations on parks, grounds and supporting clubs.
The organisation encouraged young unemployed people in Bundaberg and North Burnett to consider joining the CSQ’s Trade Start program, which is a pre-apprenticeship and traineeship scheme.
Under the initiative, individuals can earn qualifications in carpentry, welding, landscaping and fencing.
