A new residential project is set to give a significant boost to housing and land availability in Townsville after the start of its construction in the west of the North Queensland city.
The Cosgrove Residential Project in the foothills of Mount Louisa could present opportunities for apprentices in Townsville, with minister for natural resources and mines Andrew Cripps visiting the site today (April 10) which will consist of 2,700 lots.
Mr Cripps said that the project promises to deliver much needed housing and infrastructure to Townsville at a time when the city is experiencing “growing pressure”.
“The suburb of Cosgrove, which was named after retired Australian Army General and Chief of the Defence Force Peter Cosgrove, will house thousands of families, shops and other businesses,” he said in a statement.
“The development includes plans for parks and open spaces, as well as an environmental corridor along the Bohle River.”
It’s an important project for families looking to buy their first home in one of Townsville’s “fastest growing area[s]”, Mr Cripps said, where he expects to see Cosgrove develop into a thriving community hub.
“Development of the Cosgrove Residential Project will mean Townsville can accommodate increasing residential growth on the Bohle Plains,” Mr Cripps said.
The first round of land releases are expected to occur in August 2013, with Cosgrove’s first residents expected to settle in by mid-2014.
