The Concept Salon – an inclusive hirer of apprentices!

The team at The Concept Salon are passionate about empowering apprentices, and teaming up with BUSY At Work ‘The Apprenticeship Community’ has allowed them to do just that.

The Concept Salon, a full-service hair and beauty salon located in Casterton Victoria, is redefining the salon experience. Their core values are quality, innovation and inclusivity and they strive to create an environment where every client feels welcomed, valued and pampered, no matter who they are.

The Concept Salon Owner and Artistic Director, Jessica Cameron, believes that one of the ways to drive inclusivity at the salon is through her hiring practices. By cultivating an inclusive workforce and creating a supportive work culture she has been able to create a passionate team that will go above and beyond for her clients.

Teaming up with BUSY At Work

Jessica believes that her partnership with BUSY At Work ‘The Apprenticeship Community’ has been instrumental in the success of her hiring processes.

Jessica said, “From coordinating training programs to providing guidance and resources, BUSY At Work has simplified the process of hiring and training apprentices. It’s a partnership that has fostered growth for both the individuals and our organisation as a whole. We highly recommend them”.

One way that Jessica and BUSY At Work are driving inclusivity at The Concept Salon is by hiring mature-aged apprentices who are looking for a career change. This includes hiring Jamie as a mature-age apprentice.

Introducing Jamie

Jamie was 40 when he decided he’d like a career change. After a decade working in Forestry and with a background in infantry in the Australian Defence Force, he had a strong history in male-dominated industries and was looking for a change.

Jamie’s passion for creativity and his desire to connect with people made him a strong candidate for a position at The Concept Salon. He was drawn to their supportive and innovative atmosphere and with help from BUSY At Work, Jamie’s transition into becoming an apprentice barber at The Concept Salon began.

Making a late-life career change can be an incredibly rewarding experience and with his commitment, determination and enthusiasm Jamie flourished. In fact, in November this year he won three Apprentice awards in one night, including Barbering Apprentice of the Year. A win for both Jamie and The Concept Salon.

When Jessica was asked if she would recommend giving opportunities to mature aged individuals looking for a career change, her answer was a resounding, “Yes! Don’t hesitate. Their dedication, life experience and willingness to learn make them incredible assets. Create a supportive environment and you’ll see them thrive”.
