Indigenous employment and economic opportunities will be highlighted in a regional economic development forum to be held in Dalby next week.
The Regional Economic Development Forum – Energy Sources will take place at the Dalby RSL on April 24 from 09:15.
Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs Glen Elmes stated that the focus of the Dalby forum will be “increasing Indigenous participation” in the energy resources industry.
“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members from Western Downs and Maranoa will have the first chance to develop economic opportunities with leading energy resources industry members,” Mr Elmes said.
“The energy resources industry is the largest industry employer in the Western Downs and Maranoa areas.”
Mr Elmes said that the aim of the forums is to identify economic development opportunities and turn those opportunities into reality.
“The industry has the potential to have a significant and positive impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment in the area, which in turn will support the economic independence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in these regions,” Mr Elmes said.
The Dalby forum is one of four being held throughout the South West and West Moreton areas.
