Sunshine Coast names Lachlan Kenman 2013 Apprentice of the Year

Gympie apprentice Lachlan Kenman says he’s “rapt” with being named apprentice of the year at the Sunshine Coast Master Builders Housing & Constructions Awards.

The budding tradie was honoured with the award at a ceremony held last Saturday (July 20) with his employer Mark Buchanan also scooping up the Apprentice Employer of the Year award.

Kenman had just finished wrapping up his apprenticeship and told the Gympie Times that he wants to study to become a builder and further his career in the industry.

Master Builders regional manager Michael Hopkins commented that it was great to see local builders being recognised for their skills, also making special mention of Lachlan’s strong work ethic.

“Lachlan has worked on numerous projects in Gympie, including new homes, multi-story projects, extensions, bathroom renovations and a removal house,” Mr Hopkins told the Gympie Times yesterday (July 24).

“Mark Buchanan has shown great commitment to Lachlan during his apprenticeship, and is proud to call him a close mate.”

There are numerous apprenticeships in Queensland on offer, providing skills training and experience for high schoolers, as well as mature-age workers.
