The Sunshine Coast’s construction industry is set to receive a boost, following news that works are due to kick off on a multimillion-dollar bus station in Maroochydore over the coming weeks.
The project, which could generate opportunities for apprenticeships in the Sunshine Coast, will see the new station built near the Sunshine Plaza – one of the coast’s biggest shopping destinations.
“This is a significant investment in public transport infrastructure on the Sunshine Coast, and will be a boost for the local economy,” member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson told My Sunshine Coast.
“It will create a new transport hub in the heart of Maroochydore and provide commuters with convenient access to Sunshine Plaza and other nearby shopping facilities.”
The new station will include three bus bays, shelters, seating, 24-hour security cameras, improved lighting and secure bicycle storage.
Ms Simpson said the transport precinct, which is due for completion in late 2013, will also boast end-of-trip facilities such as public toilets and showers.
In further good news for the region’s construction industry, work has officially commenced on the first multi-deck car park at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH).
Lend Lease project director Mark Buckle said earthworks would start on the hospital site over the next few weeks, APN Media reports.
