Mackay residents will be able to take advantage of better streets thanks to the $6 million Shakespeare Street rehabilitation project.
Spanning 1.5km, stage 2 of the project is now in full swing, with Roads and Drainage portfolio councillor Kevin Casey encouraging anyone wanting to know more about the project to register their details with the council.
“As part of our ongoing community engagement efforts, we’re collecting details of interested parties to form an email database so we can keep residents and business owners up to date in a timely fashion,” Mr Casey said.
He added that two-way traffic in Shakespeare Street would be maintained to ensure a steady flow.
Stage 2 of the project – which could present opportunities for apprenticeships in Mackay – will grant no access to Peel and Gregory streets from Shakespeare Street, with motorists asked to use Alfred Street instead.
This stage of the project is expected to be finished by the end of the month (weather permitting).
