Queensland women interested in pursuing non-traditional fields and skills shortage areas such as engineering, architecture and building, earth sciences, and agricultural and environmental studies can apply for extra support in the second round of the $10 million Supporting Women Scholarships.
The scholarships are worth up to $20,000 each and will help women to skill up and gain qualifications in traditionally male-dominated industries.
Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek said that increasing women’s participation rates in high-priority areas will help deliver talent to build Queensland’s four-pillar economy.
“This is a double-win for our state – alleviating skill shortages and helping women to take a lead role in sectors which have traditionally been male-dominated,” Mr Langbroek said.
He added that the government delivered more than $2 million worth of scholarships to more than 120 recipients, with another 300 more scholarships available over the next three years.
