Queenslanders urged to apply for Sunshine Coast apprenticeships

Sunshine Coast residents interested in embarking on a career in the engineering sector are urged to register their interest in the Unitywater’s apprenticeship program.

The utility company recently welcomed its four newest recruits on board – its second intake since the apprenticeship scheme’s inception, APN Media reports.

And those interested in beginning an apprenticeship in the Sunshine Coast, Unitywater is planning its next round of intakes later this year.

George Theo, the organisation’s chief executive officer, said the vocational training program was created to ensure an adequate workforce to support the company’s growth and requirements.

Gary Jones, who recently joined Unitywater as a fitter and turner apprentice, said working towards a trade qualification provides peace of mind for both now and his future career.

“I’ve never had any formal qualifications so finding work could sometimes be difficult,” Mr Jones explained.

“This apprenticeship gives me much more job security,” he added.

“The future looks good.”

Until the end of April, businesses are eligible to receive an extra incentive payment when they take on a new building, construction or engineering apprentice under the Commonwealth’s Apprentice Kickstart Initiative.

Former federal minister for tertiary education, skills, science and research Chris Bowen said the two-month extension will give companies more time to take advantage of the multimillion-dollar scheme.
