Queensland women looking for a job change may be interested in a new government initiative that offers incentives for females to embark on study in male-dominated industries.
State minister for education, training and employment John-Paul Langbroek urged women to apply for study scholarships in non-traditional fields being offered by the local government.
Applications for the first round of Supporting Women Scholarships close Friday, October 12.
“This is a great opportunity to boost female participation in traditionally male-dominated industries and train more skilled workers for the areas that need them most,” Mr Langbroek commented.
Women interested in unconventional and successful careers in agricultural science, engineering, architecture, information technology and building services are urged to apply for funding grants, which are valued at up to $20,000 over four years.
“I encourage women of all ages, life experiences and backgrounds to apply, including school leavers, women returning to the workforce after having children and those looking for a career change,” Mr Langbroek explained.
Scholarship recipients will receive up to $5,000 each year of study towards course fees, textbooks and other materials – providing vital financial support during the study period.
