The Queensland government has commended the state’s top 57 apprentices and trainees who have been announced as finalists in the state’s annual training awards.
Announcing the finalists today (August 6), state minister for education, training and employment John-Paul Langbroek said it was important to recognise the contribution that those who were completing apprenticeships and traineeships in Queensland made to the state.
The almost 60 finalists in the 51st annual Queensland Training Awards fall into a wide range of categories including Large Training Provider of the Year, VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year, Vocational Student of the Year and School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year.
Mr Langbroek commented: “These awards are about recognising the state’s best employers, apprentices, trainees, teachers, trainers and vocational students for the work they do to take Queensland forward.
“A skilled workforce is essential to Queensland’s ongoing prosperity, which is why the Newman government has committed $86 million over six years to implement the reforms of the Skills and Training Taskforce.”
Apprentices and trainees are vital to combating the state’s skills shortage and creating a strong workforce to capitalise on employment opportunities in Queensland, Mr Langbroek added.
Winners of the state training awards will be revealed September 14, with the opportunity to compete in the Australian Training Awards held in Melbourne November 16.
