The launch of a new Queensland fly-in-fly-out initiative in the Wide Bay Burnett region will bolster employment prospects in the region.
Announcing the new scheme yesterday (August 14), state minister for education, training and employment John-Paul Langbroek said the program would launch more people into jobs in Queensland.
As a part of the new initiative, the local government will invest $200,000 over the next two years to fund two Industry Workforce Connect coordinators to be located in Wide Bay Burnett and the Gold Coast.
Mr Langbroek said putting more Queenslanders into work was vital to support the state’s thriving economy and address the growing skills shortage.
“This means encouraging more people into the workforce, giving them industry skills and training and then linking the increasing pool of skilled jobseekers to the available work,” he explained.
“Lowering unemployment to four per cent in six years is one of the Newman government’s key election commitments and I am doing what I can through my portfolio to help.”
The new scheme would see the coordinators ensure appropriate fly-in-fly-out services would be available to connect remote worksites with workers.
Mr Langbroek said the new program would support and encourage unemployed jobseekers into the workforce, developing key skills to enhance their employment prospects.
