In a move that could spark opportunities for apprenticeships in Townsville, the Newman government has delivered a cash injection which will see several facilities in the region upgraded over the next 12 months.
The Townsville City Council will receive $400,000 for a new digital scoreboard and replay screen to be installed at Tony Ireland Stadium, further increasing Townsville’s ability to host domestic and international matches.
An additional $300,000 will be given to the council to help build 65 additional car parks and improve access to indoor and outdoor facilities at the Aitkenvale Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC).
“Council has put forward projects that are important to the city, and we’ve stretched every dollar to give maximum value for money,” said local government minister and member for Mundingburra David Crisafulli.
Mr Crisafulli added that this must be the “Year of Delivery” for all levels of government, and they were making projects happen to help councils deliver a better lifestyle for communities.
“For the first time, this money will be spent entirely this financial year so as well as improving what makes our communities special it will also be injecting money at the right time,” he said.
