Port of Bundaberg Master Plan given green light

Four years after development plans were first announced, improvements on the Port of Bundaberg will finally get underway.

Port owner Gladstone Ports Corporation approved the master plan which will see the creation of new public and green space, improved riverfront and marina access, and new shopping, business and residential opportunities.

Premier Campbell Newman commented that the project has been on the cards for some time and that they were excited to see the process finally come to fruition.

“By releasing this plan we have a blueprint to create investment opportunities, attract tourists and generate new employment in the Bundaberg region,” Mr Newman said.

“We expect around 500 jobs to be created as construction gets underway, which is fantastic for Bundaberg.”

The project may also create opportunities for apprenticeships in Queensland during the construction phase.

Mr Newman said initial construction will begin in 2015, with the sale of the land expected to be approved by the end of the year with a Expressions of Interest process to follow.
