Nominations open for the Australian Training Awards

Nominations are currently open for the 2014 event, with 18 awards up for grabs in a number of different divisions. The direct entry categories for businesses and organisations include the Australian Apprenticeships – Employer Award, Disability Training Initiative Award and School Pathways to VET Award.

These categories offer recognition for employers and training organisations that provide apprenticeships and traineeships in Australia – including school-based apprenticeships and training opportunities for disabled Australians.

If between January 1, 2013, and April 30, 2014, you were the employer of an Australian apprentice, you can self-nominate your business for an award up until May 30 this year.

How to apply?

Applications are to be lodged directly with the Australian Training Awards. While some categories require the nominated organisation or individual to have entered their state or territory ceremonies, the Employer Award, Disability Training Initiative Award and School Pathways to VET Award have no such restrictions.

The nominated individual or employer must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident and hold an Australian Business Number if being nominated as part of an organisation.

Only one application will be considered per training establishment or business, so it is important to make sure you choose the right category to enter.

Why should you apply?

As an employer offering apprenticeships in Queensland, you stand to benefit in a number of ways if you successfully apply for the Australian Training Awards.

Winning an award as part of this ceremony can help your organisation extend its reach to a national audience. This is an Australia-wide event, which means awareness of your business and brand can reach a large customer base.

Additionally, your award-winning organisation should become a highly desirable place to work – improving your recruitment process and potentially reducing staff turnover and employment costs.

Last year’s Employer Award Winner, Queensland-based organisation Thiess, acknowledged how the award recognised the efforts of their apprentices and other employees within their business.

“Winning the Australian Apprenticeships – Employer Award is recognition of the hard work and effort that many people in the country have done in investing in our people in the last 50 years,” Thiess General Manager of People and Capability Mark Vining expressed to Australian Training Awards.

If you’re interested in gaining national recognition for your efforts in training and employment, head to the official Australian Training Awards website for more information on self-nomination. While you’re there, you may want to consider nominating your apprentices and trainees too.
