New skills and training body to reshape Queensland

The Queensland government has introduced reforms to overhaul the state’s vocational education and training (VET) sector – improving the way it operates.

Revealing the changes, state premier Campbell Newman and education, training and employment minister John-Paul Langbroek also announced the launch of the new industry body – the Queensland Skills and Training Taskforce.

The new taskforce group will communicate with the local government and Mr Langbroek about the key improvements required within the VET sector to benefit students completing traineeships and apprenticeships in Queensland.

Addressing the state’s current skills shortage through training a new workforce with the necessitated skills for the future would also be a consideration for the group.

Advice and recommendations from the Queensland Skills and Training Taskforce will be used by the local government to boost the VET sector and improve the quality of graduates.

Members of the taskforce, chaired by the Michael Roche of the Queensland Resources Council, comprise of a wide range of expertise, and will confer with different interest bodies about the state’s skills and training industry.

Reports from the taskforce will be delivered by the end of the year.
