New jobactive Employment Services office in Noosaville off to a flying start

Having only recently moved into their new office at 32 Mary Street Noosaville, BUSY At Work’s new Employment Services team are already in the process of expanding their services beyond the local region.

BUSY At Work Noosaville Employment Services Site Manager, Karen Navie said her team had been very busy engaging with job seekers, local industry, and community organisations since opening the office on 1 July.

The Noosaville office currently covers Noosa, Coolum Beach, Kin Kin and Imbil and with a heavy client load in Gympie, a temporary office has been set up at 58 Channon Street in Gympie with plans underway to set up a permanent office in the near future.

Ms Navie said her team was dedicated to providing a supportive environment for both job seekers and employers and ensuring that there were long term sustainable jobs for local people in the community.

“As part of the new jobactive contract the Australian Government has asked us to provide all job seekers with ‘work like experience’ when they are registered with BUSY.”

“We are offering a range of workshops and activities to help job seekers improve their chances of employment. From the initial contact appointments to the master classes, job seekers will be treated with respect and given the opportunity to meet employers firsthand to see what they are looking for,” Ms Navie said.

Karen encouraged all job seekers to have all their government services linked together on the MyGov web page.

“MyGov.com.au is a great way for job seekers to link their Medicare, taxation and job search information all in one place and it’s easy to log on and review upcoming events.”

Prior to moving to Coolum eight years ago, Karen worked in Employment Services in Central Queensland covering Dalby, Roma and Charleville. Since moving to the Sunshine Coast Karen has gained a strong understanding of local issues and the challenges faced by employers and job seekers.

“We have a strong hospitality and retail base on the Sunshine Coast and in Gympie so it’s important for our team to understand business owners’ needs and prepare job seekers accordingly,” Ms Navie added.

During the past month BUSY At Work’s Noosaville office has been running Master Classes to help link job seekers to employers.

The Master Classes are job readiness workshops aimed at ensuring job seekers have up to date resumes, interview skills and job search skills to assist them in applying for jobs. Job seekers can also participate in group based job search classes which allows them to find out what training they need to meet the requirements of the job they are applying for.

BUSY’s Employment Services team has also recently begun working with local council and the community with individual and group based activities through Work for the Dole (WFD).

The 26 week program encourages community groups, sporting groups and not-for-profit businesses to identify projects which will provide job seekers employability and work skills to assist them in finding a job.

BUSY At Work CEO, Paul Miles said BUSY At Work was delighted to be taking on the new jobactive Employment Services contract in Noosaville and Gympie.

“We are excited to be delivering a high quality service to the local Sunshine Coast community. Our professional employment team is already making a difference by addressing the challenges faced by job seekers and employers and ensuring that the community continues to have a strong sustainable workforce,” Mr Miles said.
