New jobactive Employment Services office in Emerald ready to make a difference

Just six weeks into their new jobactive contract in Emerald, BUSY At Work’s Employment Services team is already making a difference in the local region.

In partnership with CoAct previously known as Job Futures, BUSY At Work recently announced they would be delivering the jobactive contract in Cairns, Mareeba, Noosaville and Emerald.

Since opening the Emerald office at the beginning of July, the team have been very active building networks with local industry, job seekers and community organisations.

BUSY At Work Emerald Employment Services Site Manager, Sally Simpson said her team is dedicated to providing a positive experience for job seekers and employers while ensuring that there were long term benefits for the community.

“We are open for business and ready to help local people gain local jobs.”

“As part of the new jobactive contract we are placing a higher focus on employer engagement and ensuring we meet the needs of employers in the community. We’re also proud to be the only not-for-profit jobactive provider in Emerald,” Ms Simpson said.

Having spent the past two years in Emerald holding community development roles, Sally has gained a strong understanding of the local people and the challenges faced by employers and job seekers.

“Our BUSY At Work team is taking a ‘back to basics’ approach running work readiness workshops in a supportive environment, with the aim of ensuring job seekers have up to date resumes, interview skills and job search skills to assist them in applying for jobs.”

“With the downturn in Emerald’s local economy it’s important to have knowledge of where the jobs are and how to come up with solutions for the different areas of employment,” Ms Simpson said.

Over the next couple of months BUSY At Work will be running Master Classes to help link job seekers to employers.

“We will be looking at various local industries and running group based workshops. Employers will be invited to the workshops and job seekers will be encouraged to find out what training they need to do to be work ready,” Ms Simpson added.

BUSY’s Employment Services team is also working with the local council and community with individual and group based activities through Work for the Dole (WFD).

The 26 week program encourages community groups and not-for-profit businesses to identify projects they would like to achieve but don’t have the resources to do so.

Currently BUSY is working with the Central Highlands Regional Council to undertake the landscaping of the new gardens and building two individual play areas within the two hectares surrounding the new GP Super Clinic through the WFD program. A further project is also underway to make improvements to the Botanical Gardens.

“These projects not only deliver real benefits for the community but also assist job seekers to gain employability and work skills to obtain a job. We are discovering many host organisations choose to make the WFD program ongoing and are signing up new participants to continue improvements,” Ms Simpson said.

BUSY At Work CEO, Paul Miles said BUSY At Work was pleased to be delivering the new jobactive Employment Services in Emerald.

“We are proud to partner with CoAct in delivering the new jobactive Employment Services to the Emerald community. Our professional employment team is ready to assist job seekers and employers in creating a strong local workforce,” Mr Miles said.

BUSY At Work’s Emerald office is situated at 106 Egerton Street plus the team also provides an outreach service to Blackwater.
