Former Toolooa High School student Montana Connors has always been keen to pursue a career in the administration field.
With the support of the QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program the eighteen year old Gladstone local has been able to secure fulltime work in her chosen field.
The program is a partnership between natural gas producer QGC and BUSY At Work and was formulated to attract apprentices and trainees outside the resources sector.
In February 2014 Montana was appointed to the role of Business Administration Trainee at Roseberry Community Services in Gladstone.
Roseberry Community Services is a not-for-profit community based organisation providing a range of service to meet the identified needs of young people and families who are experiencing difficulties. These services include youth development programs for young people, counselling services, mediation and crisis and community housing.
In December last year Montana was able to complete her Certificate III in Business Administration.
Montana was thankful for the mentoring support she had received through the QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program which has helped generate more than 200 new jobs in the fields of health, hospitality, administration and child care.
“The program really helped me focus on my study plans so that I was able to complete my certificate on time. The monthly visits from my mentor kept me on track and I was able to gain valuable life skills in time management, goal setting and assertiveness through the mentoring program” Montana said.
Montana’s hard working efforts have not gone unnoticed with Roseberry Community Services Business Manager, Wendy Marsten.
“Montana has shown great dedication and commitment to her work. She has been a real asset on the reception desk and always communicates well with all those she comes in contact with. She has become a very reliable member of the team and her all round cheerful personality is appreciated by the clients and staff alike,” Wendy said.
BUSY At Work CEO, Paul Miles said Montana’s positive attitude and commitment to her traineeship had set a great example for other young people to follow in achieving their career goals.
“Through the support of the QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program Montana has become a valuable team member. She has made a very positive start to her working career and will help create a sustainable future for the Gladstone region in which she lives,” Mr Miles said.
