When Luke first approached BUSY At Work for support into work through the Transition to Work program, he had no idea what kind of work he wanted to do. He had previously worked as a tiler (for around six months) but decided this path was not for him and so he found himself at a crossroads.

The Australian government funded Workforce Australia Transition to Work program supports young people aged 15-24 who have left school and who are finding it difficult to enter work or a suitable career path. The program offers mentoring support with work-ready training, job search, resume building and interview skills, to help young people gain confidence and enter work or further education for a career path.

BUSY At Work supported Luke to apply for a role at Complete Blinds & Awnings, a family-owned business in Toowoomba. Luke was successful and is extremely happy in the role!

“Complete Blinds and Awnings is what caught my attention. They were looking for a guy and luckily, I was the perfect fit!”

Luke’s boss Kyle, business owner of Complete Blinds and Awnings, agrees, saying “My favourite part about working with Luke is he’s eager to learn, always turns up on time, and he can bring a bit of his experience along from tiling as well. He’s a good fit to the company and I think he’ll do well with us.”

Luke’s final words for other young people who are struggling to enter the workforce, “The Transition to Work program is an easy ten out of ten and I absolutely recommend it!

“My message to other job seekers is to give it a go, try different things and eventually you’ll find something that works for you. I would encourage job seekers to come to BUSY At Work, ask them if they can help you find employment and see what catches your interest.”
