Leighton’s Employment Consultant, Amanda, discussed with him the Voyages program through the National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA). The program would provide a twelve month traineeship position where Leighton could obtain his Certificate III in Hospitality while working at Ayers Rock Resort. Under the unique training program, Leighton will not only be given the opportunity to complete his qualification but will also be supported with flights, accommodation and a dedicated residential training team on location. The program supports trainees to participate in the local community, learn life skills and build a solid foundation for their future career.
This appealed to Leighton and he was put forward for the opportunity with Voyages. After some paperwork and communication between Voyages, Leighton and BUSY At Work, before he knew it, Leighton was on a plane to Ayers Rock!
Amanda at BUSY At Work said of the process, “Working with Voyages to provide an opportunity for Leighton was extremely efficient and pleasant.
“It was fantastic to see Leighton’s demeanour change when he had a goal to work towards. He ‘lit up’ and was so enthusiastic through the process. It was wonderful to see him on the day before he flew out – so excited and he couldn’t wait to get there”.
Leighton said of the opportunity, “My provider, Amanda, pushed and helped me start and gain a new experience for myself. She also built my confidence up, I am forever grateful that I am now starting this journey”.
Paul Miles, Managing Director for BUSY At Work said, “BUSY At Work partner with other community providers and employers to maximise opportunities for our job seekers. We are so excited for Leighton to not only launch his working career but to gain new experiences in a supportive environment, while working in the Northern Territory”.
