Jacob fast tracks his way into a full time job through the Hit the Road Program
Twenty year old Jacob Llewellyn knows what its like to be out of job and what it can do for your self confidence.
The former Lowood State High School student had been unemployed for two years before he had the opportunity to take part in an exciting new program BUSY At Work is delivering with Careers Australia..
The five week program called Hit the Road is part of the Queensland Government funded initiative, Skilling Queenslanders for Work Community Work Skills Program and is designed to help young job seekers gain a start in the transport and logistics industry.
The program features a mixture of classroom based training and hands-on activities such as picking, packing and loading and delivering of goods. Participants can gain practical skills with on-the-job placement, as well as being able to update their resumes and learn interviewing skills.
Since completing the course Jacob hasnt looked back and within a few weeks he was able to secure a full time job with Coca-Cola Amatil (Aust) Pty Ltd in Richlands, Brisbane.
Jacob said he was ecstatic to be working in his new role preparing pick orders of coca cola products for distribution across Australia.
“I love coming to work each day. Its the type of work I really enjoy. I get to drive an electronic pallet jack around the factory and the work is fast paced.”
“The hours are brilliant, the people are good and theres always an opportunity to do overtime if I want it,” Jacob enthused.
Jacob was extremely thankful for the support provided by BUSY At Works Program Coordinator for Hit the Road, Robyn Donnelly.
“From the moment I made the call to BUSY At Work I have been supported all the way through. Improving my interviewing skills and resume writing really helped with my self confidence.”
“The course is quick and easy and I would genuinely recommend it to anyone who wants to better themselves,” Jacob added.
Robyn said the Hit the Road program had been running since November 2015 and they were looking for participants to fill the new course.
Graduates from the program receive a Certificate II in Logistics (TLI21810) issued by Careers Australia Institute of Training Pty Ltd as well as gaining their Medium Rigid (MR) truck licence
“The Hit the Road Program is a great way for Indigenous and disadvantaged job seekers aged between 15 and 24 to improve their employability and work readiness skills.”
“We have been very pleased with the success of the initial courses so far with nearly 100% of participants completing the program. This is a great opportunity for the participants to secure a future in the growing transport and logistics industry,” Mrs Donnelly said.
BUSY At Work deliver the one on one mentoring and life skill development presentations to the participants to ensure that they are job ready while Careers Australia Training are responsible for delivering the accredited training component of the Hit the Road Program.
BUSY At Work CEO, Paul Miles said BUSY was pleased to partner with Careers Australia, one of Australias largest vocational education and training providers, in the Skilling Queenslanders Hit the Road Program.
“At BUSY At Work we know how difficult it is for young job seekers to make the transition to work so it is important for them to gain a full understanding of the physical and mental challenges they face in their new working environment,” Mr Miles said.
The next course for the Hit the Road Program commenced on Monday 15 August at BUSY At Works Office, Shop 21A, Ipswich City Square, Ipswich. Enrollments will be accepted up until close of business on 26 August 2016.
