Harley’s career journey, like many others, has not been a straight path but more like a winding staircase. His story is a testament to the fact that, although you may not be exactly where you want to be now, every experience and skill you gain brings you closer to your goals. The key is to keep pushing forward.
Harley came to CoAct Connect / BUSY At Work seeking support under the Australian Government funded Workforce Australia Employment Services in mid-2023. At the time he was working as a self-employed cleaner but despite his hard work, his earnings were not enough to support him and he continued to rely on benefits.
With the support from Layla, his Employment Services mentor at BUSY At Work, they worked together to set achievable goals for finding suitable employment During this time, Harley underwent a major personal change by gaining custody of his young children, increasing his urgency to find full-time work.
The team at CoAct Connect / BUSY At Work connected Harley with a local butcher and supported him with the necessary upskilling and personal protective equipment to start immediately. Harley was also supported with in-work support, assisting him with ongoing development to prepare him for higher-level opportunities.
At this workplace, Harley earned his First Aid certificate, Forklift license and HR Driver’s license—all key qualifications for advancing his career.
After working in the role for six months, Harley was starting to feel there wasn’t enough opportunity to advance with the company he was working for so he started looking for other options, with support from the team at CoAct Connect / BUSY At Work.
BUSY At Work soon found Harley a full-time role with Town and Country Butcher Supplies which proved to be a much better culture fit, offering a highly supportive environment that is helping Harley to thrive. By leveraging his experience from his previous role, Harley was able to secure a higher-paying job with an employer he enjoys working for.
