Nancy Pilot from the Torres Strait was a stay at home mum for 11 years, before she officially signed into a Certificate III in Hospitality last year, working as a trainee at the Mossman Gorge Centre in Far North Queensland.
Now, mother of three Nancy has completed her traineeship and is a casual worker at the Mossman Gorge Centre.
“I’m loving it, there’s good people up here, and I love meeting everyone. I’d like to work my way up to a supervisor or team leader eventually,” Nancy said.
It was a challenge completing her traineeship with her young children, but luckily her partner has been a great support, along with her BUSY At Work employment consultants, Patricia Gallagher and Belinda Fischer.
“The traineeship was different than how I thought it would be, it was like going back to school, with classes and other students doing the same course. It was really good and BUSY At Work broke it down for me and made me understand it a bit more,” Nancy said.
Nancy says she can’t believe she completed.
“It was pretty hard for me, I had to tell my trainee manager ‘I can’t do this anymore. The hours are too full on.’ But I finally completed; I pulled myself up and got the strength I needed. With Patty and Belinda giving me a bit more confidence, I’m thrilled to be a casual worker at Mossman Gorge.”
Paul Miles, Managing Director of BUSY At Work, says, “It is stories like Nancy’s that inspire the work that we do every day at BUSY. We are so pleased that she has come out on top of her traineeship, and has a bright future ahead.
“We encourage anyone who is looking for a way forward to contact us today to get started,” Paul said.
