Emily changes career from nurse to heavy vehicle auto apprentice!

A woman in a blue work shirt is standing outside near a metal building, smiling while holding a black bag that reads Winner in Trades Mentoring Programme, supported by BUSY at Work. They have sunglasses resting on their head, with grass and a chain-link fence visible in the background.

Hailing from Central Queensland, before Emily made the switch to the automotive industry, she had a successful career in nursing, being flown out to work in rural indigenous communities to provide care. After working in this field for some time, Emily felt the pull for a new challenge. Growing up around trucks – with her dad being a truck driver for over 20 years – Emily found herself drawn to the automotive world, and the change felt natural.

Now in her first year of her apprenticeship, Emily is now working her way towards completing a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Technology.

In her first-year apprenticeship where she will complete her nationally-recognised qualification while being paid and learning on the job, Emily is absolutely thriving in her new career. She couldn’t be happier with her apprenticeship, the workshop, and the amazing team she’s working with. The journey has been made easier by the one-on-one support from her BUSY Sisters mentor, who provides regular check-ins and guidance along the way. Emily’s already loving the mentorship experience and the new skills she’s gaining.

Emily’s story is a perfect example of taking a leap, embracing change, and following your passion. The BUSY Sisters team is proud of Emily for embracing her new career and making waves in the heavy vehicle industry and we know she will go on to do great things!

Inspired by her dad who was a truck driver for 20 years, Emily is taking on a career change as a heavy vehicle mechanic and loving it!
