Council offers traineeships in the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast Council is set to start receiving applications for its annual traineeship program, with anyone interested able to put themselves forward from January 19 onwards.

Covering administration, horticulture, customer contact, libraries and information technology, the full-time entry-level traineeships offer 12 months of experience for successful candidates.

Acting mayor Chris Thompson said the initiative helps people to learn what it is like to work in a dynamic local government environment.

“Traineeship placements attract many applicants each year,” he explained. “Information on how to apply is available to ensure that you submit your best application in this competitive job market.”

The council’s website provides tips and advice on those looking to put their name forward, as well as adding that candidates should apply online with a CV, covering letter and written application.

Jade Law, a former trainee on the scheme, told My Sunshine Coast Life that completing this traineeship in Queensland had given her “the ultimate foot in the door”.

“Considering I have just come straight from school, it has been a real eye-opener to the variety of careers out there,” she explained.

The traineeships will start being advertised along with the council’s current vacancies from January 19, with applications closing on February 4.
