Connor was in the 4th R U BUSY? course for 2013 and was determined to get employment as soon as he could. Connor faced many personal challenges whilst on the course including being homeless and living in crisis accommodation. Connor had applied for many positions within the Gold Coast, and even went to a day’s work trial at a local car wash, however they never rang him back. Connor unfortunately left the crisis accommodation he was staying in and ended up in a homeless situation again, however still attending the course because he was really passionate about finishing the program. Whilst this was happening, Connor’s JSA Mission Australia advised him there was a part time job at Hungry Jacks in Southport and put his resume forward. On the last week of the course Connor got the exciting news that he had an interview, after which they chose him for the position. Connor is now working part time at Hungry Jacks and back living in crisis accommodation which can help Connor transition into long term accommodation.
Rebecca had the following to say about Connor:
“Connor’s enthusiastic and upbeat personality made finding employment something for him to be excited about. Connor came onto the program determined to find work. Although Connor has had a few struggles whilst on the course, not once did Connor let the negative setbacks get in the way of achieving his goals. He picked himself up and kept moving forward. I’m so proud of Connor and I’m looking forward to seeing him progress in all aspects of his life.”

Connor proudly came in to see the Youth Project Officer at the Hub to say he has been accepted into a pre-vocational course in automotive at TAFE and starts on the 28th January. Connor couldn’t stop smiling. He is so excited to finally study something he loves, which is cars, and hopes to get an apprentice working in the automotive industry when he finishes TAFE. Connor has recently moved in with his Grandmother which is stable accommodation and, in his opinion, a lot better than couch surfing at friends or sleeping rough. Connor has kept his employment, working part time at Hungry Jacks which he really enjoys. Connor’s body language, positive approach towards his situation and happy emotions has been a huge improvement since completing the R U BUSY? program. Rebecca, our Youth Project Officer, is so proud of how far Connor has come and looks forward to hearing more positive outcomes for the next stage in Connor’s life.
