However, the existing bridge is rapidly nearing the end of its life. The current two-lane bridge has been in place since the 1960’s and is expected to reach maximum capacity in 2031. In the last five years, there have also been seven closures to the 835 metre-long bridge. For locals and tourists, this makes the island much less accessible, with this decreasing further in future years.
To promote future growth in this sector, the Queensland government has released its plan to oversee the development of the deep oil and gas resources across the state’s west and north-west.
This network is being further added to in coming years, with the much-anticipated bus and train (BaT) project moving closer to breaking ground.

The Commission has predicted the industries which will see the most growth between 2011 and 2025, giving a good indication of which careers are going to be in highest demand.
