BUSY At Work is continuing to build on its already strong partnership with the Sunshine Coast Technical Trade Training Centre (SCTTTC).
BUSY At Work Regional Manager Business Relations (South), Sheryl Parker said BUSY had worked collaboratively with the SCTTTC since 2010 and in 2014-2015 have decided to go one step further with sponsorship of student scholarships.
“Over the years several SCTTTC students and employers have benefited from the support provided by BUSY At Work in setting up apprenticeships in areas such as carpentry, cabinet making and plumbing.”
“In 2014 we sponsored Joel Farquharson who is completing a Certificate II Electrotechnology and this year we have added to our sponsorship by sponsoring a student scholarship for Cooper Urquhart who is completing a Certificate I in Construction as part of his senior studies at school.”
For the second year running BUSY is also a key sponsor of the Creating Constructive Young Women Girls Day Out – Try A Trade program recently held at the SCTTTC. BUSY At Work sponsored a T shirt for each of the young women who participated in the program.
“We are delighted that 63 young women from 15 local high schools participated in the hands-on demonstrations featuring carpentry, bricklaying, plastering, plumbing, electrical, surveying and welding trades.”
“This was a fantastic response with many of the girls attending the show keen to pursue careers in these typically male dominated trades,” Sheryl said.
Manager of the SCTTTC, Tracie Warry, said that the SCTTTC was proud to partner with BUSY At Work in developing the skills of young people for future trades.
“Graduates from the SCTTTC are highly regarded as quality apprentices by employers across the Sunshine Coast region. The increased sponsorship and support provided by BUSY At Work for SCTTTC programs such as the Girls Try A Trade is highly valued and we are very appreciative of the continued sponsorship provided by BUSY,” Tracie said.
BUSY At Work CEO, Paul Miles said BUSY At Work was proud to continue its association with the SCTTTC.
“There are many young people on the Sunshine Coast actively pursuing trade careers and our partnership with the Sunshine Coast Technical Trade Training Centre will continue to ensure that local industry has a quality recruitment base for future employees,” Mr Miles said.
