BSL looking for apprentices across ‘a range of trades’

If you are browsing through apprenticeships in Queensland, then you may be interested in pursuing a trade under Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL), the operator of the southern hemisphere’s largest aluminium smelter.

There are currently approximately 1,100 employees and contractors at BSL, with South East Asia and North America the primary markets for its aluminium.

BSL is located around 20km south of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, with the Queensland Times reporting on July 14 that the company was looking to offer apprenticeships to local school leavers.

“The stand out to completing an apprenticeship at BSL is that our plant’s size and complexity means apprentices receive myriad skills and experience during their training, then following completion opportunities can include progressing their career into different roles at BSL if they desire,” general manager Joe Rea said via the Queensland Times.

He added that apprentices rotate between operational departments during the course of their program.

“This ensures a BSL apprentice receives a wide variety of experience on different tools and processes, while their training is complemented with mentoring provided by our qualified tradespeople.”
