Efforts are underway to secure a best practice framework for uranium mining in Queensland, as membership of the Uranium Implementation Committee is announced.
Premier Campbell Newman anticipates that exports of uranium will generate tens of billions of dollars over the next 20 years, while creating a considerable number of jobs in Queensland.
The new positions will be found in regional and rural areas, benefiting those who need them most.
He commented: “Global demand for this energy will create enormous opportunities in the coming years.
“Queensland must not miss out on the opportunities for jobs and investment.”
The implementation committee’s job will be to ensure that uranium mining is developed and operated in the most efficient manner.
Between now and March 2013, the group will examine and make recommendations on a number of different issues facing the state as uranium mining gets underway once again.
There is a chance for mining apprenticeships to grow across Queensland over the next few years, as one company recently revealed its success in the gold mining industry.
SolGold said it had so far extracted 500,000 ounces of gold from the state, but has set itself a goal of one million ounces before carrying out a feasibility study.
