Whether it’s part of a New Year’s Resolution or not, it’s common for individuals to consider their career options at this time of year. Similarly, businesses may be reflecting on the employees they’ll need to pursue growth.

As such, job service SEEK has listed a few of the most highly sought-after roles that organisations hope to fill over the coming months. The data, based on the company’s job advertising volumes, highlight current trends in the employment market that may interest those keen to make a switch.

According to SEEK, there are several key sectors where talented job seekers are lacking. Having the right qualifications for these positions could give budding apprentices and trainees a key competitive edge when applying. Therefore, here are some of Australia’s hot jobs for 2016:

Carpenters

The country’s real estate and construction sectors continue to show strength. Despite the Australian Bureau of Statistic’s latest data revealing a 2.4 per cent slump in dwelling approvals between November 2014 and November 2015, the industry is still suffering a shortage in skilled tradespeople. Specifically, SEEK revealed job listings for carpenters have climbed 40 per cent year on year.

Forklift drivers

Australia’s e-commerce surge has resulted in more demand for a range of warehousing staff. Distribution centres across the country are expanding, which means companies are keen to take on forklift drivers, with job adverts for this role jumping 33 per cent over the last 12 months.

Account managers

Business confidence is on the increase across Australia, and this is reflected in a rising need for sales and marketing staff nationwide. Account managers have experienced a 12 per cent bump in demand for their services since this time last year. Furthermore, traineeships in retail, sales, marketing and customer service positions can all provide a solid base for developing a career in account management.
