Thousands visit Ipswich’s Job and Skills Expo

Droves of visitors turned out for Ipswich’s Job and Skills Expo last week (June 14), with those interested in pursuing employment and apprenticeships in Queensland exploring the opportunities available to them.

Minister for Human Services Jan McLucas said the expo was a success, with 540 jobs on offer.

“Exhibitors have told us as many as 275 of the full-time and part-time job vacancies on display at the expo are likely to be filled by people who attended the event. That’s a great outcome for the whole community,” McLucas said.

“The feedback here today has been really positive. Employers, training providers and job seekers are saying what a great day they’ve had and the face-to-face interaction has been really beneficial.”

Member for Blair Shayne Neumann added that the expo was a “great boost” not only for job seekers but also for companies and businesses who found new employees.

“It is never too late to up-skill, re-skill or engage in the workforce and the expo helped local job seekers take an important first step,” he said.

Since 2009, 80 such expos have been held across Australia, connecting almost 28,000 people up with a training or job opportunity as part of the $3 billion Building Australia’s Future Workforce package.
