Tannum Blue development receives green accolades

A major residential development in the Gladstone region has received recognition of its cutting-edge sustainable design, claiming the six-leaf EnviroDevelopment accreditation.

The multimillion-dollar Tannum Blue project, which may create opportunities for apprenticeships in Gladstone, received the accolade from the Urban Development Institute of Australia, the state government announced today (April 4).

“The EnviroDevelopment certification demonstrates Tannum Blue is a smartly designed residential development and that buyers can be confident the home that they are purchasing meets a range of significant environmentally sustainable standards,” deputy premier Jeff Seeney said.

“Initiatives currently underway include substantial retention of existing vegetation, providing a network of green corridors throughout the master planned residential community.”

The development, which sprawls over 59 hectares, will boast 840 houses once complete, with construction on the first homes due to kick off later this year.

Mr Seeney said Economic Development Queensland, the developer behind the project, is also working with Ergon Energy to create solutions that address peak energy demands on the local network.

Situated 23 kilometres from the Gladstone CBD, the new houses will be located within the existing Tannum Sands community, which is in close proximity to the local high school, patrolled beach and Boyne River.
