Queensland jobs in abundance from mining projects

The Queensland mining sector continues to rival the resource-rich west, with the latest figures revealing a $6 billion cash injection into coal seam gas projects across the state.

Jeff Seeney, deputy premier and minister for state development, infrastructure and planning, said LNG and coal seam gas projects in the region were boosting the local economy, creating thousands of jobs in Queensland.

The three Gladstone LNG mining projects employ almost 6,000 construction workers alone, with 88 per cent of the workforce Queenslanders.

“In the latest report to the coordinator-general, QCLNG and GLNG advised of the $11.34 billion that has been spent to date, more than $6.2 billion has been spent in Queensland,” Mr Seeney explained.

“The figure clearly shows LNG proponents are working to ensure they provide local businesses fair and reasonable access to opportunities arising from their developments.”

Mr Seeney said the profits from the state’s booming mining industry were flowing back to Queenslanders – with workers, contractors, companies and residents all benefiting from the lucrative sector.

The majority of the state’s work has been awarded to Australian contractors, with just 17 per cent of contracts granted to overseas based businesses.
