Mature age employee Daniel Watson is not the sort of person who likes the idea of sitting around and not being able to work.

After a ten year career as a team leader at the Eumundi Markets, last year Daniel suddenly found himself out of work and needing to financially support his growing family.

Armed with a positive mindset Daniel approached BUSY At Work’s jobactive office in Noosa ready to put his best foot forward.

BUSY At Work Job Placement Officer Noosa/Gympie, Telisha Brown said Daniel was very committed to finding work and had shown a positive attitude towards learning new skills.

“Daniel had a very determined attitude and to improve his employability we were able to assist him with job readiness skills in resume writing and interview techniques.”

“We marketed Daniel to various local companies and in early August last year Daniel was successful in obtaining full time employment as a trade’s assistant/sandblaster with Cooroy based steel manufacturing company Studio Steel.”

“Team Noosa are very happy with this outcome and it has been wonderful to see how this training and assistance has helped Daniel find a new career path,” Ms Brown said.

Since starting with the company Daniel has been learning all aspects of sand blasting as well as hot metal spraying techniques.

During the past six months he has worked on local Sunshine Coast projects, the Eumundi footbridge and various bus shelters and art monuments in the local townships.

More recently BUSY At Work has been able to assist Daniel in gaining his forklift licence, and because of this he is now also being utilised in the warehouse.

Daniel said he was pleased to be learning new skills and is proud of the fact that he is able to see these finished pieces out in the local communities where he lives.

“I enjoy learning and it’s been a refreshing change from my previous role. I love the hands-on aspect of the job and being able to visually see the results of my work,” Daniel said.

Studio Steel Managing Director, Barry Hamlet said Daniel had performed very well in the first six months of his traineeship.

“Daniel is a very enthusiastic and reliable employee. He always asks questions, is very open to learning and his progress has really impressed us.”

“Working as a sandblaster generally means working in an unpleasant environment and Daniel has shown a great disposition for this type of work.”

“He has a very steady hand and is able to successfully apply primers and polyurethane coatings to a range of steel and aluminium products.”

“It takes two to three years to be a good sandblaster and Daniel is certainly well on his way to becoming a very experienced sandblaster and painter and we are very keen to have him working with us,” Mr Hamlet said.

BUSY At Work Managing Director, Paul Miles said BUSY was pleased to help job seekers improve their employability skills and set them on new career pathways.

“We are delighted that Daniel is performing at a high level and is well on the way to becoming an experienced sandblaster and painter.”

“By helping job seekers to improve their work readiness skills and providing employment mentoring, we can set them on a new career pathway for the future,” Mr Miles said.
