Mackay on its way to better road infrastructure

Restoration works on the roads of Mackay will help to provide improved access to the eastern and southern suburbs of the city, with work on Paradise Street set to kick off this month.

The upgrade will see a roundabout on Paradise Street and Henman Street, traffic signals at George and Paradise Streets, closure of Longair Street (north of Johnson Street) and merge of George and Evans Streets (east of Paradise Street).

The Paradise Street upgrade was noted by the Mackay Regional Council to help improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety and prepare for future traffic demand.

These road projects may present opportunities for apprenticeships in Mackay, with other restorations set to begin in May and August.

The Shakespeare Street reconstruction will commence in May, to improve the condition of the existing road (Shakespeare Street between Sydney and Milton Street) and provide “improved access” to streets off Shakespeare Street in this section.

From August, the upgrade of the Archibald Street roundabout at Connors Road will commence, with the works to include the relocation of the existing roundabout to accommodate two lanes onto the roundabout from Connors Road, Archibald Street and Paradise Street
