Local Kingaroy business helps Jeremy Transition to Work

Jeremy Sinn is an enthusiastic and dedicated young man who has recently landed a full time job as a car detailer with Kingaroy based company, Bill Hull Car Centre.

A former Maryborough State High School student, Jeremy was always keen to move into the workforce but wasn’’t sure of what pathway to take to help him achieve his goal.

Like many young people, after struggling through school, Jeremy’s dream of gaining full time employment seemed a long way away.

In March this year Jeremy started with the Kingaroy Transition to Work (TtW) Service delivered through BUSY At Work.

The program is an Australian Government initiative which provides intensive, pre-employment support to improve the work readiness of young people and help them into work or education.

BUSY At Work TtW Business Manager, Eve Stevenson said the program was about helping young people understand what was expected in the workplace and to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours expected by employers.

“When Jeremy first came to us he was very shy and lacked the confidence to be interviewed. After a couple of months working with Jeremy his confidence grew and through a cold calling exercise he was able to obtain an interview with Bill Hull Car Centre.”

“Following a one week paid work trial Jeremy has now been working full time since mid May and is really enjoying his job as a car detailer. It’s wonderful to see his confidence and self worth improving every day and he is becoming a great asset to the business,” Ms Stevenson said.

Since joining the business Jeremy has been kept busy learning all about car detailing as well as working with customers and picking up and delivering automotive parts.

“I get to drive all different types of cars and it’s really helped my confidence in being able to work with a great group of people around me,” Jeremy enthused.

Jeremy said he was thankful for the support he had received from BUSY At Work.

“They helped me focus on getting a job and encouraged me to get out and about and talk with employers about my interest in cars and motor bikes. I am hoping that in the future I might be able to gain an apprenticeship as an automotive technician,” Jeremy added.

Bill Hull Car Centre Service Manager, Mark Wearne said Jeremy had performed extremely well and was a pleasure to have on the team.

“Jeremy is always willing to help out and gets on well with the other members of the team. He has a great attitude for his age and is always keen to learn.”

“If Jeremy continues to grow in the job we would be very keen to take him on as an apprentice automotive technician next year,” Mr Wearne said.

Paul Miles, CEO BUSY At Work said it was pleasing to see local employers willing to give youth a chance.

“Bill Hull Car Centre is a great example of how an employer can make a difference in a young person’s life. By putting in a little extra effort and providing the right training and assistance, we can provide opportunities for young people who might otherwise not see a future.”

“With the support of the Transition to Work Service and local employers we can help young people overcome challenges and set them on a career pathway for the future,” said Mr Miles.

As a Transition to Work Provider BUSY At Work are able to deliver high quality services to employers to ensure young people meet their needs and are supported while settling into a job.

To participate in Transition to Work a young person must be aged between 15-21 and be an Australian citizen. Wage subsidies of up to $6,500 are paid to employers over a period of 12 months to help with hiring and training costs for eligible young people.
