Gold Coast Broadwater Marine Project propels ahead

The multibillion-dollar Gold Coast Broadwater Marine Project has reached a major milestone, after four consortiums for the development were shortlisted this week.

Announcing the news yesterday (March 5), deputy premier Jeff Seeney said there had been significant interest from developers for an integrated tourism facility on state government owned land on The Spit or on Wavebreak Island.

“It is still early, with much hard work and negotiation to go, but it is heartening that the market place is showing this level of interest,” Mr Seeney said of the submissions received from the expressions of interest campaign.

The development, which may boost opportunities for Gold Coast apprenticeships, could include a hotel, marina and casino, as well as retail, hospitality, entertainment, recreation and super yacht facilities.

“The project represents great possibilities for the Gold Coast and has significant potential to drive growth in Queensland’s construction and tourism sectors, two of the sectors in Queensland’s four pillar economic agenda,” the deputy premier added.

With the Request for Detailed Proposal stage due for completion by mid-year, pre-planning and construction works are likely to commence thereafter.
