Ergon Energy welcomes 2013 apprentice recruits

Ergon Energy has shown its commitment to building a skilled Australian workforce, with a new training scheme that is boosting opportunities for apprenticeships in Queensland.

The electricity company announced yesterday (February 28) that it has officially welcomed its 2013 apprentice intake in the Sunshine State – comprising 58 new recruits and nine technical trainees.

Ian McLeod said Ergon Energy is dedicated to supporting the careers of Queenslanders, as well as constantly improving the electricity landscape of Australia.

“Our latest recruits join Ergon Energy as it maintains a keen focus on operating efficiently to deliver a safe, reliable and affordable electricity supply to customers,” Mr McLeod commented.

The new recruits, who attended inductions at Brisbane, Townsville and Rockhampton in January and February, include ten apprentices based in north Queensland, 22 in the state’s central region and 19 based in the south-west and Wide Bay areas.

State minister for energy and water supply Mark McArdle lauded the training initiative, saying it is a major boon for Queenslanders.

He commented: “I would like to congratulate this year’s apprentices and trainees for your success in attaining a position with Ergon Energy in 2013, and wish you a rewarding career.”

The apprentices and trainees will acquire skills specific to communication technicians, systems electricians, transmission linespersons and distribution linespersons, with many training and working in their own hometowns.
