Development scheme to further boost construction in Gladstone area

A green light has been given to the final development scheme for the Tannum Sands Urban Development Area (UDA), which may provide opportunities for apprenticeships in Gladstone.

Authorities have identified that demand for housing in the Gladstone region is high, making it more important than ever to facilitate the construction of new properties.

Jeff Seeney, deputy premier and minister for state development, infrastructure and planning, said that Tannum Sands is one of Australia’s largest job and industry growth areas.

He continued: “The approval of the development scheme for Tannum Sands offers opportunities for further residential growth to help meet Gladstone’s affordable housing needs.

“Over the next ten to 15 years the Tannum Sands UDA will see development of up to 1,500 dwellings.”

The Tannum Sands UDA is approximately 170 hectares and contains both private and state-owned land – development of a residential project is already underway at the site.

It spans from Tannum Sands Road to the east and the Boyne River to the west – most of the land is currently unallocated and was previously earmarked for urban expansion by Gladstone Regional Council.

Estimations show the area could eventually be home to as many as 3,000 people.
