Daniel takes out TAFE’s First Year Construction Apprentice of the Year Award

Shop Fitting Apprentice, Daniel Mansfield is a young man determined to find his own way in life.

Despite having overcome severe life threatening injuries in a motor bike accident just two and a half years ago, the twenty year old, recently took out First Year Construction Apprentice of the Year Award at the TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Apprentice Awards.

Daniel commenced his Certificate III in Shop Fitting in July last year and is currently employed with local manufacturing company, Open Projects Group.

BUSY At Work Mentor Officer, Jennie Murphy who has mentored Daniel since April this year, was thrilled to see Daniel achieve success in his chosen career.

“We are absolutely delighted with Daniel’s success given that he spent two months in hospital and three months in rehabilitation just two years ago.”

“His dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to his trade have been exceptional, especially given the obstacles he has overcome to get him where he is today.”

“BUSY is proud to see Daniel win this award, he’s an inspirational role model for others who have faced setbacks in their lives,” Ms Murphy said.

Daniel said he was very grateful for the support he had received from BUSY At Work.

“Without the support from the mentoring program I would have struggled to get this far in my apprenticeship. Jennie has been there to assist with any questions or concerns I’ve had and I would certainly recommend other apprentices undergo the program.”

“This has changed my life and I’m looking forward to finishing my apprenticeship in the next few years,” Daniel said.

One of the Partners of Open Projects Group, Alex Toomey said Daniel had a strong work ethic and a determined attitude.

“Daniel has worked extremely hard during his apprenticeship and we are certainly proud to have him as part of our team. He is doing really well and made the most of this opportunity. With the support and the training we have been able to provide, he has a great future ahead of him,” Mr Toomey said.

BUSY At Work, CEO Paul Miles said that BUSY was pleased to support local youth as well as be an advocate for people like Daniel who had faced difficult circumstances.

“We congratulate Daniel on his success so far and know he will make a valuable contribution in the workplace.”

“Daniel is a very determined young man who now has the confidence to move forward in his chosen career and I’m sure he has a great career path ahead of him,” Mr Miles said.

While no longer involved in cross country motor bike riding, Daniel has continued his interest in motor sport having recently taken up the sport of go karting.
