Counting down to Australian Engineering Week – August 5-11

If you are interested in pursuing a career in engineering, and are looking for more guidance or apprentice support in this area, then you may want to head along to the events coming up in August for Australian Engineering Week!

In this year’s engineering week you can expect more site tours, events and activities which showcase what engineers are doing for the country.

Queensland division president Simon Orton says that Australian Engineering Week is also a time to “engage our next generation of future engineers”.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the profession as a rewarding career choice with endless and exciting possibilities,” Mr Orton said.

Queensland will be hosting its first ever Canstruction event this year in Brisbane, with this global design and build competition to be hosted by Engineers Australia Queensland division on Tuesday August 6.

The competition involves teams of up to six constructing creative, giant-sized structures made entirely out of canned food.

The cans from the structures are then donated to a community agency that provide food assistance to those in need.

The designs will be built in the Brisbane CBD, with the public asked to vote for the best design and the winning team awarded with a ‘Peoples Choice’.

Entry forms and fees are due on Monday July 8 at 17:00 – head to the Engineering Australia website for more details.
