Cooking Classes a Success

For many of the students involved this was the first time they had been taught how to cook, proving an educational activity for all.

The course involved 90 minute cooking classes each Wednesday over ten weeks. Participants learnt how to cook a variety of recipes from scratch using fresh healthy ingredients. Students also learnt about important kitchen safety rules including how to correctly use appliances and knifes.

Michael Carroll Learning and Development Officer for BUSY At Work, commented on the programme: “Students had a blast creating yummy meals and especially enjoyed taking home their delicious creations to share with their families – well that’s if there was anything left over after the class”.

Before each class the students had the option to cook one of two meals. On the menu included Berry Custard, French Toast, Thai Green Chicken Curry and Chilli Con Carne. “Cooking is a skill for life and has proved a great team building exercise for the students, not to mention a certain youth worker who is learning some mad new skills too!” says Michael.

The cost of participating in the course was covered by funding provided to BUSY At Work under the Get Set For Work Government funded programme.
