BUSY supports successful Employer Led Program with QT Hotel

Eleven lucky job seekers have embarked on a three week journey which could transform their lives with a career pathway in hospitality.

BUSY At Work Job Services, in partnership with the QT Hotel in Surfers Paradise launched the Employer Led Program called Your Skills Your Way at the hotel on Tuesday 5 May.

BUSY At Work, Employment Development Officer Evan Mita said BUSY was delighted to team up with QT Hotel in this innovative program.

“The objective of the Employer Lead Program is for BUSY to address the employer needs in the workforce and then match this criteria and select the best fit jobseekers.”

“Just two months ago we met with QT Hotel Food and Beverage Manager, Rupert Sakora to negotiate a partnership between the QT Hotel and Job Futures BUSY At Work.”

“We’ve come back with a plan to assist 11 jobseekers who met the requirements, with a three week program which would give them employment opportunities in preparing banquets at the hotel. This is a great opening for the jobseekers especially as there is a high demand for this type of work on the coast,” Mr Mita said.

The program has now begun and the jobseekers are receiving training through Banquet Manager Steve Phelps of the QT Hotel.

Mr Phelps said they were pleased to support the jobseekers in achieving their career goals.

“We are pleased to share our passion for the hospitality industry and be able to train the next generation of hospitality professionals,” Mr Phelps said.

The jobseekers who complete their training will be given credit towards their Certificate III in Hospitality.

QT Hotel Food and Beverage Manager, Rupert Sakora said that Your Skills Your Way was a great way to engage an enthusiastic labour force that were keen to learn and excited about getting into the hospitality industry.

“The jobseekers get to train in a real environment and banquets are a good place to start as the jobseekers can learn about the basics of service, setting up and packing down. They are also dealing with people face to face without having to take orders, so can focus on the basics.”

“If they do a great job and they are the right fit then they can be recruited to our banquet team or potentially moved into other areas of the hotel,” Mr Sakora said.

Mr Sakora said the QT Hotel were grateful for the support provided by BUSY At Work.

“BUSY have streamlined the process for us ensuring we get jobseekers who fit our recruitment standard and really want to be in the hospitality industry,” Mr Sakora added.

BUSY At Work CEO, Paul Miles said BUSY was pleased to partner the QT Hotel in the Employer Lead Program.

“We are delighted to be part of this ground breaking initiative which matches employer needs and help jobseekers find fulfilling and sustainable careers. We are very fortunate to have the QT Hotel on board to train and mentor eligible jobseekers into a very demanding and rewarding career in the hospitality industry,” Mr Miles said.
