Jobs package to boost QLD SMEs

Queensland’s small to medium enterprises (SMEs) are set to benefit from the federal government’s billion-dollar jobs package.

Minister for industry and innovation Greg Combet said supporting SMEs to grow and develop in both the domestic and global market is vital for economic growth.

“Australia has a good track record in starting up new businesses but we need to ensure that our small businesses can take advantage of opportunities to grow, collaborate, adopt innovative practices and succeed in export markets,” Mr Combet remarked.

The Commonwealth scheme aims to support SMEs through a range of strategies including the new Growth Opportunities and Leadership Development (GOLD) initiative and a new $27.7 million Enterprise Solutions Program.

Opportunities for apprenticeships in Queensland could receive a boost from the jobs package, with it helping the state’s SMEs to advance their position in the marketplace and expand in their industry.

The package also includes the $378.6 million Venture Australia program, which aims to facilitate the growth of innovation-driven companies by improving access to business and finance services.

Ten Industry Innovation Precincts will also be established around the country to boost the work between researchers and businesses to develop strategies for SME success.
